Default guildwars pvp-

Hi

I been wondering if i should buy guildwars, i have been playing wow for 2.5 years and stopped recently, because of the pvp was basicly unbalanced.
So i wanted to hear before i mayby buy guildwars.
How is pvp in guildwars is it balanced ?
or is it a just after alot of time spent getting to know guildwars then you at the end you find out that its unbalanced (strictly pvp), and then you just wasted 2.5 years ?.

and is it like 1v1 2v2 3v3 etc and of course guild vs guild?

It is not like WoW AT all.

Guild Wars PvP is one of the most balanced in any game. Although the meta is kinda bad now, it's still better balanced then most games.

You can start playing PvP instantly in Guild Wars by making a PvP-only character, which automatically begins at max level and has access to max equipment (no spending 2.5 years to level up a character, but rather, all of 10 miniutes to make one). These characters don't have access to everything right off the bat if you just started the game, but most anything you get in PvP or PvE will be accessible to all PvPs characters you make. They are also, obviously, limited to only using the PvP areas, which are, like everything in GW, instanced.

PvP in Guild Wars is always team based (4v4 or higher) as it is a team based game. 1v1s would just be rock paper scissors most of the time otherwise (although any profession can beat any other profession, it just depends what that particular person is speced to at any given time and how good that player is).

Guild Wars, unlike most MMOs, doesn't give you a set skill list like most MMOs where you have 25 skills plus can pick 3-4 custom spells that make you unique. Instead, you can only use 8 skills at a time. EVERY skill you use in GW is chosen by you, so you have to create a completely custom build. That means two characters of the same profession (aka class) can both run something completely different that do completely different things (damage, support, etc) without any overlap.

Go ahead and give GW a try. It's cheap in stores now. No monthly fee so if you don't like it, you don't have to keep playing it. You can quit and come back as often as you like.

Highly teambased.
You can do random formats where teaming isn't decided by anyone, but the real deal lies in teambased pvp formats with 8v8 and 8v8v8 teams which requires patience and consistency as well as skill enough to not suck at either the game or socializing.

This gives the rundown on pvp in a basic sense. As you can see there are only 6 different formats.

* Random Arenas (4v4 - Random Teams)
* Codex arena (4v4 - Formed groups,limited pool of skills)
* Competitive Missions (8v8 - Random Teams)
* Guild vs Guild (8v8)
* Heroes' Ascent (8v8)
* Alliance Battles (12v12 - three 4v4 Teams)

So the answer is no. No 2v2.

There are also Scrimmages. You start these in Guild Halls, with teams of any size (they may be wildly different in size), so this obviously happens between people who know each other. While the rules and winning conditions match GvG by default, the players can choose to play by whatever rules they agree to. So yes, 2v2 is possible there.

Note that there are no rewards for scrimmages, they're played strictly for fun.

Also, there is the Observe mode. You can watch GvG ladder and tournament matches, as well as some Heroes Ascent matches. This is both a useful learning tool and a great source of Youtube fun
